ITC Service Group (“ITC”), is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager of Design Services in Citrus Heights, CA.  The Sr. Manager of Design Services reports to the Director of Design Services and provides overall management and guidance to the successful delivery of Special Engineering projects nationwide. 

General Overview

Provides overall management and guidance to the successful delivery of Special Engineering projects nationwide.  Manages organization by coordinating activities consistent with company and Director of Engineering goals, objectives, and policies. Under the direction of the Director of Design Services, implements programs to ensure attainment of business plan for growth and profit. Responsible for providing day-to-day leadership to wireline project engineers. Among these responsibilities is the analysis of team composition to insure proper staffing, making and/or approving hiring recommendations, productive discipline, team coaching and training, and ensuring workflow is on-target with project goals, and company policies. The ideal candidate will display expert ownership of business principles, telecommunications, and negotiation skills and display a dedicated focus on internal and external customer service.

Essential Functions

  • Directly supervises engineers, construction supervisors, CAD operators, clients, and managers to ensure engineering team is on task, on target with project deadlines, budget allocations, and meeting client’s goals and expectations.

  • Manages definition and implementation of strategic plans and increases the effectiveness and efficiency of the National Engineering teams (Engineering), through improvements to each function as well as coordination and communication between support and business functions.

  • With direction from the Director of Design Services, creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Designs, develops and implements contracts tracking for engineering services, providing increased visibility of project status, audit compliance/reporting, project timelines, schedules, customer satisfaction and contract status.

  • Ensures proper resources (i.e. staff, computers, software) are available to meet requested service dates and assign individual responsibilities.

  • Reviews deliverables prepared by team before engaging with client to ensure completeness and per statement of work “SOW”.

  • Actively participates in calls, meetings, scheduling Business as Usual “BAU” work, and major projects. Will also facilitate effective team and client meetings.

  • Communicates with team members both in written and verbal form, shares new information, reviews and approves time sheets, manages OT and expenses.

  • Responsible for creating opportunities for growth, collaborates with HR and Executive team on succession planning, challenges team members to develop as leaders.Serves as a trainer, role model and mentor to the team, to ensure team has a all the necessary motivation, determination, tools and technical training to fully execute the statement of work “SOW” of projects.

  • Manages, oversees and contributes critical fiscal input to achieve maximum efficiency and optimal capacity utilization on all bidding projects, personnel, delivery of services and equipment on time and within budget.

  • Manages process improvement and reporting for engineering operations.

  • Introduces technology capabilities to optimize business operations.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, project management or related field strongly preferred

  • At least 10 years’ Outside Plant engineering experience

  • Proven experience in technical training, and team management

  • Direct work experience in business operations, engineering and telecommunications

  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of engineering design and planning management

  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and specifications

  • In-depth knowledge of OSP equipment and design, ISP knowledge

  • Knowledge of construction practices and procedures including underground, buried and aerial of copper and fiber, to include, FTTC, FTTH, knowledge of products to include Corning, Marconi, CALIX and ADTRAN a plus

  • Must be proficient in systems to include Fireworks/Bidmaster, EWO, OSP-FM, JDS, word processing, Microsoft applications to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Proven experience in strategic planning

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves sitting for long periods of time, reaching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Working under strict timelines and stress.

ATTENDANCE

Employee is expected to be on the job and on time every scheduled workday.  Engineering Managers work hours can change from day to day.  It is his/her responsibility to know when the work day starts and ends on each scheduled work day.  If it is necessary that you will be absent or late for any reason, employee needs to call direct manager by 8:00 am on the first and each subsequent day the employee will be absent or late. If employee is absent for more than 3 days a doctor’s note (explanation) is required.
