Job Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The OSP Engineer is involved in all aspects of Outside Plant aerial/Buried cable plant design. Taking pole measurements/strand mapping will be the primary focus of this project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Collecting field measurements and documenting environmental conditions for the placement of aerial and underground cabling, as required.

Verify and document the condition of existing poles for the placement of aerial cabling, or make recommendation regarding alternate/underground routing of fiber optic cabling.

Walk existing pole line with paper drawings. Take measurements from pole to pole with a laser range finder and mark the pole to pole measurement on the plans for submittal.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of telephone industry standards, accessing, reading and interpreting mechanized assignment records, PC applications, OSP record and/or computer aided drafting systems, and able to interact with all on-line computer systems company requires.

Knowledge in understanding infrastructure plans (highway, sewer, bridge, etc.) and survey information for the elimination and prevention of conflicts with existing or proposed underground and site obstacles, and for proper installation location within easements and public right of way.

Knowledgeable of all municipal and governmental requirements for outside plant work.

Uses mature judgment in all aspects of the job

Skilled in multi -tasking with strong attention to detail

Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

AA Degree or higher in Telecommunications, Engineering, Electrical Engineering or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

5 or more years’ experience as an OSP Engineer with Aerial/Buried Plant/Make Ready experience

Experience designing aerial cable plant

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves walking for long periods of time, reaching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Working under strict timelines and stress.

ATTENDANCE

Employee is expected to be on the job and on time every scheduled workday.  Work hours can change from day to day.  It is the employee’s responsibility to know when the work day starts and ends on each scheduled work day.  If it is necessary that you will be absent or late for any reason, employee needs to call direct manager by 8:00 am on the first and each subsequent day the employee will be absent or late. If employee is absent for more than 3 days a doctor’s note (explanation) is required.
